The parking problem, straight
Parking ramps are usually a no. Most downtown ramps have a clearance bar around six feet eight inches. A service truck does not fit under it. If your car lives on level three of a ramp, we generally cannot get to it, and this is the one situation where mobile does not beat a shop. Tell us the ramp when you call and we will be straight with you rather than turning up and taking your money for a wasted trip.
Street parking works, with planning. Metered and permit spaces on the isthmus are workable if there is room to open a door fully and set out cones. What we cannot do is work in a live traffic lane or on the narrow one-ways during rush hour.
Winter alternate-side parking. Madison runs alternate-side rules overnight through the winter months, which means your car may not be where you think it is, or may need to move partway through a job. Mention it when you book and we will schedule around it.
Underground and podium parking in the newer buildings. Same clearance problem as ramps. Some buildings have a surface visitor stall or a loading area a service truck can use — worth asking your building manager, because that one question is often the difference between us coming out and not.

Who we help downtown
Two groups, mostly. People who live on the isthmus without a garage or a driveway, for whom a shop visit means moving a car they can barely park in the first place. And people who work downtown — the Capitol, the university, the hospitals, the law and tech offices along East Washington — whose car sits in the same spot for eight or nine hours a day.
That second group gets the most out of us. If your car is parked from eight until five anyway, most repairs fit inside that window and cost you nothing in time at all.
The no-start call downtown
A dead car downtown is a genuinely bad situation. You cannot leave it where it is, towing it out of a tight space is expensive, and if it is in a ramp the tow itself becomes complicated.
This is the case where calling before you call a tow matters most. Most no-starts are the battery, a corroded terminal, the charging system or the starter, and all of those we can test and usually fix where the car sits — provided we can physically reach it. If it is on a surface lot or a street space, that is usually a same-visit fix for less than the tow alone.

That is the single best use of us. If your car sits in the same surface lot or street space all day, most repairs fit inside your working day. You will need the lot owner’s permission for anything that goes on jack stands.
